How To get FREE Advertising in Newsletters
& Ezines
By A.L. Haines
This Best part about this type of
advertising is, because, well it's FREE !!!
When I started my e-zine I wanted more
subscribers. To succeed i needed them.
Add to this i wasn't able to pay for
e-zine advertising, i needed a solution.
I'd seen a thing or two about e-zine ad swaps,
so naturally i was curious. I looked to see
which e-zines would swap ads with me.
I contacted some, and while most turned me
down, some e-zines wanted to swap and so I
was off and running.
I had started my first swaps.
Most of the e-zines I swapped with had
anywhere from 100 to 10000% more subscribers
than i had. (I'm not exaggerating either)
so I had to run their ad a total of 2-30
times in my e-zine and it didn't matter,
because, I just wanted more subscribers !!
My biggest problem was keeping track.
I found it best to use a spread-sheet
editor like EXCEL or even LOTUS123 will work.
There may be software out there somewhere
that may be able to do this, but nothing free.
(OK, so I'm cheap too!)
Use an Autoresponder;
1. Set up an autoresponder with information
on your swap request and how to contact you
to set up a deal.
Autobots.net has a free autoresponder with
NO ADS (except their blurb) which is quite small.
SendFree gives 1 for 1 back ads, where you
get an autoresponder request that has an
advertisement of theirs tagging along.
In return you get an advertisement sent on
someone else's autoresponder request.
An even greater value with the free ad.
2.. Join all the Ezine Ad Swap Lists to
find others to swap with. Topica, GlobeClubs
& ONElist are all excellent places to find
swap sites.
(DO NOT use your autoresponder as your
return address here)
3. Join ADSWAPPERS, Where the webmasters meet
Click Here Now and request a swap today.
AdSwappers is a meeting place for webmasters
to exchange information regarding advertisement
swaps in their respective ezines or newsletter
publications. Simply fill out the form that
is supplied and wait for a reply, or cruise
the message board. When you have found a
suitable targeted market, make the request
yourself.
They have a NO ADS policy, and its nice
to have a clean e-mail account. (somewhat)
Is swapping ads is the best way to get
new subscribers? I found some swaps didn't
do diddley squat for new subscribers and the
other swaps did. It may have been your ad
or the e-zine you swapped with.
Their subscribers may be interested in
other things, but no worries,
it was free remember! A lesson is learned
so look for others. (swaps & lessons)
Maybe they didn't even run it !!
YES This happens. Possibly it was forgotten
or missed, while some unscrupulous people
send you a "personal e-mail" with the ad,
but it was never sent on the real ezine.
(from past experience, i know what i'm saying)
Basically, they send you a copy showing it.
But it never made the REAL email copy.
SOLUTION!!
Open a new email account for two reasons,
for swaps & tracking. Nothing else.
When you agree to a swap, subscribe to the
ezine using this new account.
(don't use the signature it might give you away)
Unfortunatley, this is a sneaky way to go
about your business, but a necessary evil
nonetheless. Plus you will be able to track
which ads are still running, completed or you
might wish to change an ad in the next issue.
Test your ad copy!!!
Find an ad that brings in new subscribers
and use that ad in future ad swaps.
Once you find an ad that works well,
blast it out there!!
Use it over and over. and over again !!
NO BLANKS!
If you sell ad space in your e-zine and
you have an opening in an issue,
NEVER LEAVE IT BLANK,
go for a swap and increase your subscriber
base. Never leave an ad spot clear, just
because you don't have an ad to run.
RUN YOUR OWN if you have to.
Find others that reach your target market
and want to swap. To find people to swap
ads with surf around for ezines An excellent
starting point is LISTSERV.
First, i sent in my request for a new
announcement at LISTSERVE (its free)
and promoted my Site AdSwappers,
"Where the webmasters meet".
Owners that want to swap ads with other e-zine
owners has worked well for those who use it.
